Puppies

Pets make us infinitely happier. The unconditional love is what we wish to receive from all those in our circles. We talk about man’s best friend all of the time. We even make jokes about it…

Stolen by and from a friend on Facebook

We are kind to our four-legged friends in ways we are often not so kind to our fellow man. Occasionally, we are better to our pets than to our Mates. We hold grievances against Mate for long stretches of time. The same is not true of our animals.

Puppy breath. Muddy footprints. Teething. Accidents. There is very little about puppies we do not forgive or love. Well, almost.

Puppy

A perfect fit in the palm.
Warm and wiggling. Be still!
So full of energy,
If you’ll sleep, who could tell?

A million tiny footprints
Across the kitchen tile.
Occasional puddles
Never do make me smile.

But your fluttering heartbeat
And your little baby tail
Show me how much you love,
For my heart you assail.

With a whimper you trip.
Into my arms I scoop you.
I tell you to be careful,
But, oh, you never do.

Soon you will learn to play
With the children all day.

Come inside smelling vile.
Get a bath with a smile.

Snuggle into the bed,
Pillow beneath your head.

So, dream about chasing
And when you come racing,

Like a thoroughbred stud
Who’s all covered in mud,

But not eighteen hands tall,
You are still very small.

With my heart on a string
I’d give you anything.

The love of a friend
You’ll carry to the end…

Unless you chew on my shoe.

Heels taste good, Momma.

I like Jacks as well. This one is a Chihuahua. He is quite the little pistol, too.

  3. I feel this same way about our cats. Any trouble they seem to get into is quickly forgotten or forgiven.

Right now one is asleep with her little paw laying on top of my laptop as I type. Cutest thing ever.

I’m going to try the “Who Is Your Real Friend” experiment with my wife. I’ll post again if I live.

  4. You have a lovely pup there Red, and what a pleasure to have me thinks 🙂 I like the ‘Who Is Your Real Friend’ mention too, that is a really good one 🙂

I have a cat with similar traits but we pet lovers all love our pets so that is how it should be, for all the love we give there is a rewarding edge as they too love us also 🙂

Have a very nice rest of evening Red 🙂

    • He is a pistol! I miss my cat, but have not the heart for another. We had 16 years together. It was hard to lose him.

Tonight looks to be a good one. 😉

  5. I like puppies but I love cats. My heart breaks when either of these two are hurt or broken. Their little faces and mournful eyes of hope turn me into a puddle.

Lovely post, Red. See, I’m alive.

    • WooHoo! You did not disappear into the mist whilst I was away! So very good to see you tonight, Tess. I know what you mean. This little mugger has the most amazing green eyes. Not that gold color most cats and dogs have. They are truly green. No wonder I named him “handsome dog”. <3

  6. What a beautiful little puppy, Red. I couldn’t agree with you more…They make the best friends and, well, there seems to be nothing my dogs can do wrong, well, not for long anyway. I can’t stay made at them, for more than a few seconds. They looks up at me with those big ink wells, and it’s all over.
    Your the best, Red!
    I love ya!

  7. There he is sleeping. It’s Beau Chien! It’s Beau Chien! Wake up, wake up! We need to play together, Beau! You and me, well, we are just beautiful! Wake!

Thank you for visiting my post, Auntie Red. I told my mommy everything you said to me. She was really happy too.
I think Beau Chien needs and avatar so he can talk human words too. I bet he knows how to too.
    Bye for now, Auntie Red.
    Doggie love xo

    • Maybe, if I can get him to sit still to have his picture made, I may do that for him. He likes to lick the camera! Right now he is sunbathing in the light from the window beside my desk. He is storing up the energy he needs to romp and play this afternoon! Be good, sweet CiCi. Auntie Red. xxx

  8. I just read your poem to Michelle. We both agree it’s beautiful Is that your puppy in the photo? A Jack Russell??? We had a Jackie x Chihuahua years ago & he was the most wonderful little man. On the puppy front we don’t have Angus anymore. He’s been re-homed as he & Dixie just weren’t getting on very well. Plus the main reason was that he was getting nowhere with toilet training even after 7 months. Our new home has new carpet & we just couldn’t tolerate it any more. We discovered online that Chinese Cresteds are notoriously difficult to toilet train. A common breed problem apparently.

    • I hate he had to go, but understand the dilemma. I put new carpet in the house last summer (along with new wood floors) and so potty training is a must. No, he is not a Jack. He is all Chihuahua. I will get a picture of him before too long which shows off his satellite dishes 😉
