Flash in the Pan

She looks like a rabbit, twitching her nose like that.  He watched as her lids half closed, and her mouth fell slack. Her breathing slowed.

“I cannot imagine what you are allergic to.” He shook the pepper grinder over her salad. “Eat something. Maybe, it will make you sneeze.”

Welcome to “Flash in the Pan”

This is the beginning of the second edition of Flash in the Pan. The upper limit for October is 75 words, and this entry is a mere 49 words. The word of the week is pepper.

The theme of this edition is multipurpose words. All of the words featured in this quarter’s production will be used as either nouns or verbs, depending entirely on the images you conjure when you see the word.

We will be exploring both ends of the word limits in this edition. If you are brave enough to face a 50 word limit, do let me know. Debate left this month at 75, against my better judgment.

If you are playing along for Flash in the Pan, or would like to join for the first time, visit the Flash in the Pan page to see the whys and wherefores on how to get started.

I am pleased to announce there were over 60 entries to the first edition of FTP. It will be available for download at Redmund Productions at the launch.

Thank you for your enthusiastic support of both flash fiction and FTP at the M3 Blog.

Happy Flashing!

Do you have something which makes you sneeze? Do you have a surefire way of making yourself sneeze? Who is ready for the new flash fiction prompts?

  4. Lots of things make me sneeze 🙂 I hate it though, because I get sick to my stomach when I’m about to sneeze for some reason. I love pepper though??

    • I like black pepper the best, and how are you my friend? 🙂 I think that bright light gives some people a sneezing fit but usually for me it is a strong scent, musk for instance…

Have a lovely evening Angela 🙂

      • I am one who will sneeze at certain colognes, yet never once has the “look at the light” method worked for me. *shrugs*

          • I believe you may have had it right as you wrote it 😉

          • I have a rather large bottle of it in the lavatory cabinet. I have worn it off and on for special occasions for the last 20 years. It has a great spice note to it I rather enjoy 😉

    • Not a traditional pepper fan. Non-biodegradable and all that. Odd. Do not think I have heard much on queasy sneezing before.

  6. Nice one Red!!
I still couldn’t do below 50 yet. Mine (on scheduled) is 59.

Is sneezing really cure allergy? 😉

    • Oh, I bet you could if you had the right word!! Yes, sneezing is to get allergens out of the lungs and nasal passage. And a rather effective one. 😉 Great to see you today.

  7. I sneezed right along with ‘her’ and groaned as ‘he’ added more pepper for her to sneeze at. Too sweet.

Fabulous at only 49 words. I vote for some FIP at 50 words too.

  8. wow! -) how bout 33? I’ve done a few of those, tricky but the challenge is fun. I say no lower than 30 but I’m game…
I will have to repost for this week it was on the last part of Happy Talk that didn’t get saved before WP ate it … I used it as a verb 🙂 if I can remember how it went. Note to self – do not fine tune flash in the pan on a post you have had open all day with sketchy internet connection – or make sure to copy it somewhere first. !
    Lovesalot – Hey..wasn;t that a carebear?

    • LOL! I did not ever do Care Bears. Lots-o-Huggin’ Bear was from Toy Story 3 😉 Much love, Lizzie <3 And we may have a special 30 word one. Already working on a set for 50 😉

      • I didn’t do CareBears either until they came back around and Magpie adored them, and collected them and watched them over and over and over again… better than Ba…never mind I wont bring that up.. I like the short word challenges – I used to do the Trifecta one and on weekends it was ususally 33 words. Except when I have a definite idea of what I want to write – like the Desire one… I was set on that line of thought and realized too late I was using a higher word count – that was a beast. 🙂 but it is also good exercise for me mentally in …, perseverance and ..that other thing..focus~! 🙂 <3

  9. I must admit, I’m a fan of the 6WS (six word stories)… never tried one with a word already suggested…

    • I am not so much on the SWS, although I have seen a handful of really good ones. I was not keen on flash until the word limits got much lower. The original ones I encountered were far closer to short stories. (300-750 words) I like the snippets and slivers around 100 words. You really need to give it a try. I think you will like it!
