Flash in the Pan

Digging is hard work. Try doing it on another planet. How much fun is zero gravity when you are trying to make a pile of dust?

Stepping on the shovel, she heard the crunch through the atmospheric helmet.

She knelt to sweep away the blue-green dust. It was a time capsule from Sardis, one of the moons. Once open, she knew it was booty from a botched kidnapping.

A carved bone flask, half full.

A tail plume of a phoenix.

A four-knuckled finger, still wearing a 200-gram, marquise-shaped piece of uranium set on a platinum band: A wedding ring.

Welcome to “Flash in the Pan”

For the second straight week, flash comes in on the nose of the word limit. December’s upper limit is 100 words. The word for this week is ring.

If you are playing along for Flash in the Pan, or would like to join for the first time, visit the Flash in the Pan page to learn how to be a part of the second edition of FTP. Who thinks a 50 word limit would be fun?

Happy Flashing!

Would you like to visit another planet? Do you have any interest in archaeology? If you were digging, what would you like to find? How would you feel if you found what she did?

  2. This is great, Red! Intriguing, and realistic sic-fi. I love it. I’ll be submitting another Flash for this quarter’s book, and must go to the FTP page to see who’s there. It’s so much fun to read and write 🙂

    • The thing I love most about it is the instant you see the word, you know precisely where you are going. I have never embraced sci-fi in my own writing, so this quick grab at an alternate planet was fun.

  3. I love things with a ‘history’!
Not sure I’d be brave enough to travel to a distant planet… sure fun to read about though! Nicely done, Red!

  4. Any planet, moon, or extraterrestrial body would be fascinating to visit or explore. Just getting into space would be incredible.

    • I love to read this, but this is actually my first swing at the scifi ball. I have never tried to put the cast of characters I carry around into a world of their own. Have a terrific evening, Andro. Glad you liked this one. 🙂

    • This is my very first scifi anything. Sometimes it is best to start small. 🙂
