Day 15: A Wet Cock

What? It is true. It is an accurate descriptor. Grab a cuppa. I promise not to make you spit it on the screen.

aquarius symbolMy birthday is the 26th of January, which makes me a water bearer. I was born in the year of the cock. Rather than convince you, I am going to give you the overview, and you get to tell me what you think.

Water Bearer

Traditionally, the good traits of Aquarians include:

  • Loyalty
  • Honesty
  • Originality
  • Friendliness
  • Humanitarianism
  • Intellect
  • Inventiveness

The downside includes:

  • Intractability
  • Contrariness
  • Unpredictability
  • Perverseness
  • Unemotional response
  • Detachment

There can be an upside in most of the dark side. Aquarians are either shy, patient, gentle and sensitive or lively, exuberant exhibitionists. Both are likely to shield their own depth of character in a cloak of frivolity indicative of their idealistic and lofty pursuits.

Sensible practicality and serious-mindedness bring them strong convictions tempered with the honesty to change opinions when sufficient evidence is well-presented.

Their humor is dry. The refined perseverance comes across as reasoned, frank and moderate without being self-assertive. Philosophically and spiritually-minded, Aquarians reach for the recognition of the brotherhood of man and the philanthropic benefits of humane treatments for all mankind.

Fiercely independent, Aquarius rarely follows the crowd. They often retreat and drift as loners, accepting help only on their own terms. Good taste in drama, music and the arts leads to broad-spectrum interests and aptitude in both art and drama.

water urnDespite magnetic personality and deep desire to help mankind, Aquarians do not make friends easily. Often coming across as cold and condescending, they do not give of themselves easily, due in part to their judgment of the human condition. Once friends, they are fiercely loyal.

In their idealism, Aquarians demands others be as forthright and idealistic as themselves. Since this level is not commonplace, the temper at their disappointment is intense. When disillusioned, Aquarius rarely forgives.

Born leaders, Aquarius makes a natural historian or scientist, aided by an unquenchable desire for truth and knowledge. Aquarius is a natural poet and teacher. With an unmatched ability to mimic, Aquarius is an entertaining character actor or musician. More psychic Aquarius will possess healing gifts, especially for mental illness.

However…

aquarius block symbolAquarius easily falls into extreme fanaticism, reclusiveness, wayward egotism, pronounced detachment, and tremendous dogma-driven opinions. Continued opposition to one of the causes Aquarius champions can turn the open-minded water bearer into a misanthropist. Aquarius is as powerful an enemy as an ally.

Aquarius’ cunning often unintentionally appears to be a lack of integrity. Warning signs include brewing resentment, pointedly rude behavior and deadpan silence. They preface the hatred of enemies which, if not appeased, can develop into full misanthropy.

Ascending

The constellation rising on the location, day and time of my birth was Gemini.

gemini angel devilWith a Gemini ascendant, Aquarius is so mobile as to appear everywhere at once. The unending questions are both outgoing and incoming. The mind never rests. It travels from topic to topic so quickly, absorbing everything it touches, it produces intense memories. This fire needs to be continually fed.

Gemini exacerbates some of Aquarius tendencies: having a good sense of humor, playful, sociable, expressive, whimsical, independent, nervous, lively, imaginative, cerebral, charming, adaptable, intellectual and into everything. Gemini also exacerbates more negative tendencies as well, making Aquarius appear capricious, opportunistic, selfish, mercurial, sarcastic and odd.

Descending

The constellation descending the moon at my birth was Virgo.

virgo symbolWith a Virgo descendant, Aquarius intuitively acknowledges and accounts for the complexity of a given situation. Infinitely detail-oriented, Virgo moon will labor over tedium until all matters are settled, even at the expense of sleep and health. Aquarian temper flares which can lead to singed feelings in co-workers.

Resourceful and able to remember minutiae, Virgo moon Aquarius easily prioritizes, analyzes and systematizes everything down to bodily functions to increase efficiency. Good thing, too because Virgo moon internalizes which upsets digestion. Cooking better is a side benefit of being a particular (not picky) eater.

Year of the Phoenix

phoenixRepresented by the cock on the Chinese zodiac, Phoenix (roosters) are confident in their hardworking habits, courageousness, intellect, resourcefulness and talents. Phoenix likes to expound philosophically and philanthropically and prefers an attentive audience. Prone to dejectedness, Phoenix may clamor for attention or retreat to solitude when ignored.

Considered the herald of the gods, the rooster crows to awaken man. Phoenix will shake you with strong conviction and a well-planned argument. As Phoenix comes to these realizations (apparently) divinely, it comes across as overly boastful. Multi-talented, meticulous and highly-motivated roosters are masters of many jobs, often simultaneously.

Voracious readers and writers, leaders in systems (management, military and law enforcement) and teachers, Phoenix rules the roost, often changing the world.

Month of the Ox

oxThe month of the Chinese zodiac symbolizes the inner self and tempers the overall self revealed in the year. Oxen are diligent, longsuffering, dependable, strong and determined. Often hardheaded, Ox is not likely to back down. Ox will, however, not engage an argument when unable to communicate clearly, a foible of the noble beast.

Ox holds to ideals for country and family. Driven for education, patriotism and loyalty, Ox will be a faithful spouse and parent. Careful planning and meticulous, unwavering execution makes Ox a success on the work front. Often lacking feminine traits, Ox must substitute the cautious attitude and brute force perseverance with affection. In the meantime, loyal Ox relies on friends in the absence of a mate.

Day of the Ram

goatChinese zodiac days represent the true self, often the self reserved for alone time when obligations are retired. Ironically, the “ram” is a feminine symbol. The born artist has incredible fashion sense and very refined taste. While preferring to be cared for in luxury, Ram will get those hooves dirty, provided it has something to do with art… and not housework.

Imaginative Goat dreams of a world filled with luxuriant beauty, sensuality, peace and serenity. Often the bleakness of the material world wounds Goat’s spirit to the place where retreat is the only option, whilst someone else takes care of the dirty details. The contrast manifests pessimism, moodiness and sadness.

Hour of the Ram

sheepThe secret self is illustrated by the zodiac for the hour of birth. The ancient belief held the Sheep would be fattened if fed during the hours of 1300-1500. The secret self is held away from all until the rawest moments. The secret Sheep will wrap in a silken wolf drape to hide from everyone, including itself, until the art supplies surface.

Once in its element, Sheep will flourish with someone to remember to feed it, as it cannot be bothered with more than making the world a greener, brighter, happier place. Idealistic and easy-going, the Sheep is very sensitive. Rarely the aggressor in confrontation, Sheep will sooner charm the enemy into compliance.

Metal

metalOften translated and equated to the air signs on the sun zodiac, metal is rigid, persistent, determined and strong. Negatively, metal can be controlling, headstrong and forceful. Ambitious metal is out to change the world through strength, stabilization and organization. Metal is business-minded, has generative power and strong impulses which make it the conductive conduit for transference and change. Emotionally, metal is predominantly characterized by courage and grief.

yinYin

The dark, female force of the yin-yang principle of Taoism is the moon symbol: reflective, passive, shaded. In its gentleness, Yin seeks completion through endurance, application and the accumulation of energy.

All Together

Picquant, hot, fiery, toilsome and laborious best describe the yin-metal phoenix. Fixed, of the second trine and eighth stem and characterized as xīn, yin-metal phoenix means “to offend superiors”. Unlikely to explain how conclusions are reached, the yin-metal phoenix seeks deference for the genius work necessary to produce the conclusion, its monumental patience exhausted in the discovery and rendition of results.

  1. Yeah, so no real surprises here; move along.

While not big usually on Zodiac, these definitions and descriptions come close. I see a great deal of you.

    • As ironic as fitting me into a mold with a boatload of other people is, my zodiac is amazingly accurate.

  2. No surprises. I must be a horrible teacher though, I find it less frustrating to do most things myself than try to explain it. I love seclusion, I dread going out near people. Of course I would be surrounded by overbearing donkeys that make me want to hit them in the head with a baseball bat. What was I talking about?

    • I’m with you, Binky. I read Linda Goodman’s book Sun Signs when I was in college, but after reading everything (as I did above, with the same conclusion), all of it seemed interchangeable. If you blocked the sign and read only the traits, most of them will fit everyone. All of the above–except the extremes–fit me pretty closely. And Phoenix is one of the icons claimed by Scorpios. Linda claimed there are 3 different types of Scorpios, and at various stages of my life, I’ve been all of them. Been everything else, too, at one time or another.

      • I skipped that particular book. While there are some which are very interchangeable, I have found traits of other signs apply to me not at all. Plus, all of the extreme ones of my sign apply to me… even the negative ones.

  7. I’ve always been fascinated by astrology, but my signs never fit me. I am a Sagittarius goat. Sags are supposed to be super optimistic and outgoing, while goats are depressed timid things. None of it fits me. My element is metal, I believe. Anyway, fascinating title. You’ll probably attract some interesting spam with that.

    • At some point I read a remark by someone who claimed that, since the earth has shifted, one should go by the sign directly before, not the one assigned to you. That did seem to work bettrr for me when I was paying attention to such things.

Seems you have studied the Chinese Zodiac much more than I… I should look into it… while numerology is my thing, I find these characteristics often true and fitting!!
Your “path of life” number is 8, which is synonymous with success, royalty, execution and the law! Leadership and charisma, 8 shall be thy name! Dictatorship and power can be thy shame.

    • Eight is a number which has played a large role in my life. Nearly as much as four, which also happens to be my favorite. The Chinese zodiac is filled with number influence since it is a sixty year cycle. Yes, my is very accurate. xxx
