Day 19: Uhnvee

Of all of these posts, this one was one of the hardest. It really does not apply to me. Help me fill in the blanks?

While I live very well, I am not materialistic. I can do without a great many things and choose regularly to forgo the trappings which others seek. I had a hard time trying to think of five items I lust after. It does not help: If I want something, I buy it.

A little known fact about me is: I can go weeks without spending money on anything for myself. You know I do not eat much, so even groceries are something I can do without.

Another little known fact about me is: If I do not have three reasons, I do not buy something; andΒ I want it is not a reason. Yes, there is that pragmatism again. I am green to the core and refuse to waste.

We are going to play what if… What if I could just want something for no other reason than to have something? I truly suck at this. I still cannot think of anything. I already have everything I need.

(Leaves post. Comes back four days later.)

Did you miss me? Me, neither. Here’s what I came up with whilst I was gone.

Nothing

The closest I could come to answering this question is to say if I had to want something it would be newer versions of things I already have and enjoy.

1. A new one of these.

Truck with Attitude

Same color. Same model. The bonus would be: The new one has an MP3 player instead of the removable face CD player mine has. Oh, and a new one would not have a quarter million miles on it like mine does.

2. A new crop of these.

red boots

white peep toes

3. Another one of these, so my children would have one of their own.

BlackBerry PlayBook

Meet the new CrackBerry.

4. (I am struggling here… Be back in a while. I have to think some more.)

(Three days later…)

peeking

I give up.

Can you answer this question?

Name some material thing you want.

  1. I had to really think about this too because I have most things I want/need already. I guess the only thing I’d want is enough money to pay off the few debts we have and maybe take a trip somewhere warm. I’ve only been on a plane once and it wasn’t really for pleasure.

    • I adore flying. I wish I still had the arm strength to hang glide. I know I would love to parasail. xxx I really think you should do this challenge. You could post for nearly a year with it!

  2. Hmmm… Kind of like: ‘What would you do if you won the lottery’.

For me the win is the objective so I can help my friends who are going through a hard time right now.

    For myself?

A house tricked out as a space ship! πŸ™‚

Crazy I know, but it’s nice to dream! πŸ™‚

    Love and hugs!

  3. Material things are just things, if one is lucky enough to have a happy life then that is all that is required, I mean everything else is just secondary.

Now where are my pancakes? πŸ˜‰ lol

  4. Hmmmm. I *always* have at least ONE good reason (usually several more) for wanting anything. Growing up poor and staying that way are great teachers for showing us what we truly need, and eliminating desire for material things that break, decay, or become obsolete.
If I could have what I really want, but don’t have, is a larger, solid, and clean house, with NO chance of a leak, termites, or insufficient space for the stuff I want to keep around me.

  5. Strange, things I want / need are not really things I want or need specifically for me. But I can always dream really really big! So I will play the really really big. If I won Powerball and had all the millions I would ever ever need.

    1. Family Ranch where we could all live in our own houses far enough away from each other but close.

    2. Fund and run school for at risk youth to include scholarships for them and their family members.

    3. Fund and run retreat for women and children who have been victims of violence where they can gain skills and healing and reenter society sucessfully.

    4. Open a writers retreat with my partner!

  6. I’ve never wanted a lot. When I was young, it was new threads to look hot for my date. Later, a house for live in was important. It needed work. then I wanted a baby, got married, had one. Now I have my grandkids and am happy.

Nothing materialistic turns my crank, except books, and a good internet connection.
