Pequita stumbled into the cantina, covered in red clay dust and sweat.
She whispered to the barkeep, and he brought her a bottle of mescal. ย He went to the far end of the bar, watching her as he rubbed a glass absently. The patrons watched as she poured a shot. She left it on the bar and upended the bottle.
If they were coming for her, she was going to be ready.
This week’s flash comes in at 72 against the 100-word upper limit for the month of June. Today’s featured word isย cantina.
If you have been reading around, which I wholeheartedly encourage, you will find some really terrific twists on the words from the bistro. If you have not already gotten hooked on the talented authors ofย Flash in the Pan, today would be a fabulous day to start.
Happy Flashing!
Who is after her? Why did the bartender go to the end of the bar? Why did she leave the shot on the bar?

/ June 9, 2013Easy, she was trying to be a lady and not drink the entire bottle alone.

Deb
/ June 9, 2013She entered the bar all dusty and sweaty. She likely escaped from an attacker since she has now has an upended bottle in her hand, which she intends to bust over someone her attacker/s head, then have her shot of mescal.

/ June 9, 2013I love it! Excellent writing.
Pequita is a runaway; a rich kid living the down life. Her parents are after her, but are more concerned with appearances than their daughter. She left the shot on the bar and drank from the bottle because she has a germ phobia when it comes to other people’s cooties. The bartender went to the far end of the bar because he’d eaten a bean burrito for lunch and felt gassy.

/ June 9, 2013It sounds like she’s running from someone, desperately, all sweaty and in a hurry, and has had enough (of what, I hope to find out) and is ready to fight back with the upended bottle. Great writing and I’m thinking the same as Candy and you, Red..I want to know the events that took her to the bar and what will happen next…
Hugs to ya, Red! xx

/ June 10, 2013I like this one as it adds a little spice to the imagery, and I too think that this one needs to be broadened, well at least until we know what happens next surely? ๐ ๐
