Flash in the Pan

Pequita stumbled into the cantina, covered in red clay dust and sweat.

She whispered to the barkeep, and he brought her a bottle of mescal.  He went to the far end of the bar, watching her as he rubbed a glass absently. The patrons watched as she poured a shot. She left it on the bar and upended the bottle.

If they were coming for her, she was going to be ready.

Welcome to "Flash in the Pan"

Welcome to “Flash in the Pan”

This week’s flash comes in at 72 against the 100-word upper limit for the month of June. Today’s featured word is cantina.

If you have been reading around, which I wholeheartedly encourage, you will find some really terrific twists on the words from the bistro. If you have not already gotten hooked on the talented authors of Flash in the Pan, today would be a fabulous day to start.

Happy Flashing!

Who is after her? Why did the bartender go to the end of the bar? Why did she leave the shot on the bar?

  1. Definitely a good setup for some action. Now is she the hero, or villain?

    • Why do you think I am more interested in the back story? Why indeed did the bartender go to the other end of the bar?

  3. She wasn’t running away. The bar is right where she wanted him. When he comes in out of the sun, he’ll be momentarily blinded and that’s when she’ll strike. The bottle will hit him in the head, knock him out, and then she’ll drag him upstairs to bed. The shot is for after when she’s having that smoke….

  5. I would not mess with her. Usta think broads with “I’m raw trouble” aura would be adventurous. Learned my lesson well. Nightmare not adventure.

    • Methinks that is a relevant lesson to staying out of trouble… and possibly jail.
