“She was just quiet. You know, contemplative about things and not saying much.” Roger shifted his weight and rubbed the back of his head. “I just don’t get…”
Had he not been on the case, the detective might have been more compassionate. “You don’t get how she could have done this?”
Roger slumped heavily into a straight-back chair. Across the small dining room hung a portrait. The smiling faces seemed a lifetime away. The three girls were in matching dresses. The little boy’s tie matched his sisters’ hair bows. Four sets of matching dimples and twinkling eyes. With a blunted affect, Roger looked at the officer. “What am I going to tell their father?”
“I cannot answer that, sir. From one father to another, I would suggest you be forthcoming about your daughter having killed them quickly. They did not suffer.” Detective Casey turned to walk away before adding, “Much.”
