Flash in the Pan

Sitting in the closet, she counted slowly. 147 – 148 – 149.

The flashlight shone off the silver and copper coins. 154 – 155- 156.

Not many more and she would have enough. 171 – 172- 173.

She shook the last ones in her hand. Would she have enough? 198- 199- 200.

With a satisfied smile, she slid all the coins back into the sock and tucked it into her left shoe. She put out the torch, crept from the closet and crawled into bed.

She drifted off to dream of her desire: a double-scoop, chocolate ice cream cone.

Welcome to “Flash in the Pan”

After a significant number of dark and frightening flashes, tonight’s lighthearted entry comes in at 83 words against the August limit of 100. This week’s word isΒ desire.

Everyone interested in playing along with FTP need only pick one of the featured words, write a flash (staying under or at the maximum number of words for the month), and link back to the post where the word is featured. If you would like to get ahead or catch up, the words are posted on the Flash in the Pan page where your flashes will be linked. (Check out the early entries for this word there.)

Flash in the Pan will be a quarterly publication compliments of Redmund Productions. All entries will be published. Deadline for this edition is 30SEP12. Entries must be linked before 2359 EDT (GMT-5). All non-WordPress users need to email their links via Ask Momma.

Happy Flashing!

~~~~~~~~~~
Be honest: Did you guess it before you got to the end? Are you enjoying Flash in the Pan? Have you visited some of the other very talented writers in the FTP group? When are you going to pen your first FTP?
    I had no idea until I got to the end, but I’m kinda slow these days.
      I’ll wake up later, that’s not the way that was supposed to appear.
  2. I had no idea about the desire until the end. Cute, but I was disappointed that it wasn’t scary, or gross. But that’s just me. πŸ˜›
    • I have some in the later running which will be more up your alley. I had to do some to balance out some of the other work going into the FTP. It appears most of us enjoy embracing our inner darkness for flash!
  4. I figured she was counting coins, though I didn’t know for what. An chocolate ice cream cone is a good goal.
    If she’s wearing that shoe with all the coins in it, it’ll be an awfully tight fit.
    • No doubt. I miss the ice cream man. I have not seen one the entire time I have lived here. Pity. I think it is a wonderful thing for children.
