“If that phone rings one more time, I am going to rip it out of the wall.”
Carrie cowered on the couch. She’d heard this speech before. She pushed herself up and toward the kitchen.
She set dinner on the table, knowing better than join him for the meal. She crawled into bed, falling into fitful dreams. It wasn’t the ringing which woke her. The cord wrapped around her neck did.
This week’s word is “dinner”. Flash in the Pan has an upper limit for September of 125 words. Tonight’s flash weighs in at the featherweight of 71 words.
Everyone interested in playing along with FTP need only pick one of the featured words, write a flash (staying under or at the maximum number of words for the month), and link back to the post where the word is featured. If you would like to get ahead or catch up, the words are posted on theΒ Flash in the Pan pageΒ where your flashes will be linked.
Flash in the Pan will be a quarterly publication compliments of Redmund Productions. All entries will be published. Deadline for this edition is 30SEP12. Entries must be linked before 2359 EDT (GMT-5). All non-WordPress users need to email their links via Ask Momma.

How long has it been since you had a telephone corded to the wall? Do you still have a land line? Who is “he”?
Laurie
/ September 9, 2012I did manage to find Internet access to read it, now to get it back at home before the end of the month. My timer is about to shut me out. UGGH

/ September 9, 2012Excellent, Red. We still have a ‘land line’ although the phones are both corded and cordless version. It may be a good idea to keep the land line, when fibre optics take over, the internet on the old ‘land line’ will be a lot faster. “:)

/ September 10, 2012I have a corded tele around here somewhere, but I have not had a land line in years. Fiber optic does make it better. When I lived in civilization, the fiber optics made the conversations far clearer and none of the party line bleed through. I do not think I will ever go back to wired Internet, though. I am quite spoilt with my wifi π

I still have a corded phone, but I wonder how long they’ll still be around?

/ September 10, 2012Based on the production cost, not long. Retailers make almost nothing on the corded versions of telephones. It is why they are harder to find. Still warehouses full of them, but very few who will carry them. If more ppl knew you could use them even when the tele service was out, more ppl would buy them.

/ September 9, 2012I have an extra phone in the closet that has a chord in case of emergency and it wasn’t until a few years ago that I finally got one of those bundle packages. Because when the power goes out, the cable does and so would the phone. I’m old school. I liked knowing the phones wouldn’t go out … π
Yes, I know, we have cell phones now … Sooo not my point.

/ September 10, 2012LOL! If you are like me, when it is bad enough for the power to be out, the cell is as well. Mine stays dead because I use it so much. Not uncommon for me to have spent 7,000+ minutes per month on mine π

/ September 11, 2012Wow. That’s a lot of minutes. Two words, car charger! π Fortunately, I’m not on the cell that much so I’m good.

/ September 10, 2012I would love to join in on writing Flash. Do I simply ‘finish writing in so many words ‘my story’ to it’? And that’s all I do?
How do you just simply ‘link back’ on WordPress?
I know I sound ‘dumb’ for the moment… but, I have to… if I want to learn. I really want to join in. Maybe later I can do well in this… and you all will forget I had to do this in order to participate!

/ September 10, 2012That is it! Write your flash based on whatever the word for the week is. Put in a line at the beginning or end which says something like “This is my addition to the Flash in the Pan series at The M3 Blog.” and link it to the post where you got the word (or to the FTP page if you are working on one of the words I have not done yet).

/ September 10, 2012I only have a cordless land line phone so if the power goes out I only have my mobile phone…
A very good piece though – very dark and disturbing… π
