Flash in the Pan

Marie splashed Scotch over an ice chunk she pretended had enough class to be rocks. It was really just taking up room she could have used for more alcohol.

August 18. Three years, eight months, four days, seven hours and sixteen minutes. Even at a shot a minute she could not wash away the pain of being left at the altar.

Welcome to "Flash in the Pan"

Welcome to “Flash in the Pan”

Tipping the scales at a mere 60 words against August’s 75-word upper limit, this flash features the word left. Methinks with that much Scotch, she could be directionally-challenged.

August is wrapping up. How far ahead of me are you? Flashers are everywhere! Grab the Flash in the Pan page (on the left under the header image) and surf the blogosphere with the best flash fictioneers ever.

If you do not have a copy of the books, you are definitely missing out. Some of the flashes in the books are different from those presented on the blogs. A very large number (nearly 20%) were never posted on the Internet. The only place you will read them in is an FTP book!

Why do we believe a depressant (alcohol) will lift our spirits? What keeps us from pursuing new relationships?

Have you left a review for an FTP book?

  1. We can fall into some destructive cycles, especially if deep down we believe we deserved what we got.

    • You are correct. So many believe if someone does not choose them, it is a reflection of who they are rather than the chooser’s taste/tolerance.

  2. Ha! Nicely done. At least she hasn’t yet become the bitter old woman from Pride and Prejudice(?).

How do I link back if I enter? Something about the word intrigues me.

  3. Binky, you hit the nail on the head. When we drown, smoke, or do other things to forget we are usually blaming ourselves. This flash seems to mirror that sentiment. How cruel can it be to leave someone at the altar, though. I can imagine signing up a posse to hunt the offender down.

  4. Poor Marie. I can imagine how terrible it is but I think it’s for the best, better it happens before they start a new life together 😉

Why do we believe a depressant (alcohol) will lift our spirits? <<< I never drink even a drop of alcohol in my life and will never do. I am also curious why do people drink alcohol when they are depressed!

Ps. Just wrote another flash and will read FITP book 2 🙂

  5. Left at the alter, she should be celebrating! Oh, did I say that, well shut my mouth…..no don’t.

Maybe she is celebrating but being socially correct and pretending otherwise. 😉

  6. Being left at the alter is pretty harsh.
The setup here didn’t end in the direction I half-expected. Bravo. I never know where these will end. I love the countdown to the very minute. She IS not a happy gal.

    • There are so many events in my life which stay on the calendar. Somehow, I do not think I would ever let that one stay… especially for that long!

And you know it is my mission to detour from where everyone expects. xxx

  7. I am surprised that she would remember the exact time right down to the very last minute after being jilted at the altar 🙁

What a low down and dirty trick…

Great flashing as usual Red, and I hope that your Tuesday is a very exciting one my great friend 🙂

    • You are echoing my thoughts to Val and Tess. I am not one to give rejection that much space in my calendar. 🙄
