Day 21: Crystal Ball

I am the one who usually tells everyone my crystal ball is cracked… just like yours. It is a knee-jerk defense against pessimism.

The question is not about my prognostication. It is about my wishes. This post was almost as difficult as the one about items for which I lust.

For me, I want simple. As boring as it sounds, what I really want of the future is consistency different from the consistency which inhabits my life at the moment.

Drama=Zero

Red

I would love days which held no stabbings, no escapes, no lights and sirens. Days and nights where the tele rings for things like reminiscing, setting social engagements and reminders I need to return books to the library.

Education=Fun

Today, education is something I deliver. Somewhere in the future, I would love to be immersed in an education program tailored to my intellectual needs. While I recognize this is unlikely, it would be fun. For weeks at a time, I crave intellectual stimulation which does not climax in my solving a life conundrum for pay. I would like to discover my own conundrums.

Exercise=Dance

Sooner than later, I want to return to my roots and dance. Despite physical limitations, I am still graceful. Without practice, I will lose that grace. I really do not want to have a hip replacement because I stepped out of the shower incorrectly.

Pets=Birds

Doves to be exact. I have a sneaking suspicion I will be having these in the near future. I have been far too long without the annoying soothing sound of mating calls.

Occupation=Retirement

This is not something with which I have had much success. I retired officially when I was 36. Based on the life plan I created when I was 19, I missed my goal of 35 by six weeks. While I have not finished the math and scouting to retire again, I am looking forward to being in merely an advisory or board position within the next ten years, after I have expanded Redmund into more arenas than merely books.

Hobbies=Books & Art

Yes, I want to read. I want to write. I want to be a prolific author in a number of genres. Yes, I know. I have eight titles in less than one year. I want to see my solo titles explode. I also would like to do it before I have to have someone transcribe what I speak. I would like to write them myself.

*Large raspberry* Fine. It is still not the same as feeling the pencil on the paper or the keys beneath my fingers.

I seriously need to let out some more art. I may not be the best at it, but I still enjoy creating it.

What do you want your future to hold? Anything you can grab in the next five years?

    • Yes, 19. I knew then I did not want to work more than 30 years. I am knocking on the door now to 31. I retired after 28. Hey, now! I know I am no cheap date, but a fortune? ROFL!

  2. The great thing about retirement is that it gives you more time to get the important work done.

  3. This is definitely an inspiring prompt!
    ART! and more ART! and throw in some music too! I pursue the dream of creation in all I do, and I too would like to see my works become as fiscally generative as they are artistic and pleasing!
    And an unending ability to be philanthropic fiscally, as a teacher, as a spiritual person, in service, in laughter, in love, in all ways…
    hugs…

  5. Lots of luck retiring, Red. You retiring ever? NOT. Retirement is a state of mind. In my mind retirement from routine crap is simply an invitation to become even more productive and creative. Where does that time go?

    • For me retirement will merely be moving to an occasional advisory role, as opposed to touching most every part of the machine. I love that I have been able to step away and more get done in my absence.

  8. Wow, retirement at 36… just 1 year to go. 🙂

    I think I will be working until I am dead.

    What would I like for the future? To follow that schedule I made last month. I’m kind of in a self employed business with lots of people watching my every other move…

    It is up to me to be disciplined and that is what I want to work on.

    • With discipline you can do it. I know it works. Have you left a link to your blog in the Green Room?

  9. Hmmm…

    At the moment I am at a crossroads in my life.

    On the one hand I want to be able to earn enough by writing to leave benefits behind and on the other I need to be secure with my benefits as I am under review and may lose everything.

    I guess what I really need is to win the lottery, but that ain’t going to happen unless you believe in miracles.

    I guess all I can do is wait and see…

    Love and hugs!

  10. I only want a few things –

    1. My Ph.D, so I can teach in my retirement which I am not ready for yet because I still enjoy my work too much.

    2. An island somewhere, yes an entire island somewhere or at the very least enough of it that I have complete privacy (okay a cave for you).

    3. To learn to process my own film! I know, digital is the way of the future but I still like film.

    4. To learn different media, to paint and draw just because. Maybe even to learn pottery also.

    5. To find an adult ballet class, not a leap about one but one where I can just remind my body what it feels like.

    Those are just for now. I am sure there are others. I like yours, but those are mine.

    • I can teach you #3, and I am completely up for pottery lessons. I have not worked with clay for fun in years. Little V is enjoying ballet lessons. We do them on Tuesday and Friday. I would enjoy it more with adults. xxx
