Muse for Monday

We continue to talk of strength and character. While we project it to the outside world, what are we really saying to those close? Are we as clear in our projections to Mate and friends as we are to the complete stranger in the street? Today, I ask you, “What is….

Beneath

If I looked into your eyes,
What would I find?
Dreams, fears, lust, a fight?

Peer Into My Eyes

Peer Into My Eyes

Peer into my eyes
And you shall find
The happiness I deserve.

In all our time,
Not once did you see
More than your reflection

In the catacombs
Just beneath the glassy lens.

If I look in your heart,
What would I find?
Compassion, understanding, hatred?

Look into my heart
And you shall find
An all consuming fire.

You were blinded
By the light, mistaking
Its warmth for the passion

Which fuels the flame
Just beneath the heartbeat.

If I looked into your soul,
What would I find?
Character, strength, a black hole?

Feel gently my soul
And you will know
I am whole.

Alone I am content,
Fearless, kind, forthright,
Filled with compassion

Making me beautiful
Just beneath the skin.

Tell me what is beneath. Your skin or Mate’s.

  1. Sometimes I wonder what’s under my skin, but find myself too busy at the moment to analyze it. I’m sure the usual muscles, blood, etc are there, but otherwise feeling a bit hollow at the moment. Thanks for your post. This poem speaks for itself:)

    My true self lies
    Beneath this bag of skin
Eyes, the lens to see within

  3. I know what gets under my skin, my wives inability to listen and my inability to handle it in an adult way.

    • I like your interpretation of the question. In the poem, I point out sometimes it is someone else beneath the skin! Red.

  4. Lovely piece Red! 🙂

I am the stillness of dark waters,

    Far beneath me lies,

    the secrets of a dreamer,

    who once saw summer skies…

    Love and hugs!

  7. I am the Black Knight, forever crossing swords with foes of the past, the jester that laughs and stirs a little curiosity, the traveller whom caresses time into a rhapsody of delightful moments, the lover that gives everything and wants only to be there, the artist that paints upon a canvas of optimism…

I think that’s what lies beneath
is a combination of time, and meaning…

This is a thought provoking entry Red 🙂
Do have a lovely rest of evening, and a
sweet tomorrow my great friend 🙂

Beautiful Red, as usual. Under my skin look into my eyes. Skin first, people good and bad. We will leave it at that. Now look into my eyes, kindness sadness love and anger. True rage, but I contain that ungly beast. What do you see?

    • What I always have, the complex web of intellect supporting humor, hurt, humanity and hubris; the reflection of love and the power of fire. You remain, my Bear. Red.
