Short Words

MantraSometimes, we think we know what we want. Then, after much blood, sweat and tears, we get it. Only to find out something is amiss.

Often we predicate our dreams on the actions of others. We set out to do things with the express intent of sharing them with someone in particular. Once the work has begun, there is no viable way to turn back, even when the obvious presents itself: The person with whom we mean to share them is absent.

Mantra inspired House on the Hill after seeing more than a few who had built lifetime commitments have those dreams deflate because the ones meant to share in the reverie chose to be absent or died before the fruition. This poem is dedicated to all those whose crowning achievements are tainted with the sadness of accomplishing them alone.

House on the Hill

House on the Hill

With downcast eyes and an empty heart,
For from its crack seeped my soul,
I am still and quiet.

Resting here, tired from the climb,
Looking down from the lonely pinnacle,
Wondering why I came.

From below I saw the home,
In which I wanted our household,
But you are not here yet.

The curtains are drawn and shades down tight.
Waiting in the dark for my miracle
Of us being together, one in the same.

More often than most of us really imagine. This one is a side effect of listening to others.

Good to see you today, Jeremy. It is true more often than you know.

  3. You know this hits in the solar plexus … I love you sister!

I remain convinced we should just live in communes, self regulated and self sustaining. Raise children, write, play, travel and care for what is needed without all the other stuff to distract.

I am not opposed to your proposition. My mother told us when I was a teen she wished we would all live on a commune. She is still looking at property in Wyoming for this exact reason. I have told her, we need to go back to Texas if she wants to do that!

  4. Sadly this must be all too familiar for so many people, building a lifetime together only to lose the vision and the dream just before completion 🙁

Have a very nice rest of day Red 🙂

One of these days I will share a story I have about this precise thing. It is part of what makes me keep such a positive attitude. It is the one thing I own I wish I could virally spread to everyone I meet. Good to see your today, Andro. I hope your evening is shaping up nicely. I owe you a visit. I should not stay away this long!

  6. I was going to be married to a Danish woman, Hanne Damgaard, but the week before we were to finalise everything and I was to move over there Hanne died of a massive brain embolism in her grandmother’s kitchen with her family with her at the end.

    I haven’t had a relationship since…

    Love and hugs!

Do not close that door forever, Pren. When you least expect it, someone will walk through it. {HUGZ} Red.

  8. Tears pouring. The dreams, without being shared, fall flat. Loss leaves a hole and life is never the same. It can still be good, but part of the dream is gone forever and must be amended as we learn to live, love, and dream again without them.

Aye, but the amendment never holds the same luster as the original.
