Muse for Monday

Since the end of the world is approaching (Bwahahaha), Mantra has been saving something for this week. Yes, the fairy has her tongue squarely in her cheek.

The End of the World

In the rush to meet the end of the world, there are many who would try to do a million things on bucket lists before time expired and because they feel they can get away with them as the repercussions would not be immediate.

Just as there were many who believed the satellites falling from the sky on New Year’s Day 2000 would blow up the world, there are more than a few who believe there are only four days before the world ends, compliments of the Mayan calendar.

Mantra has decided the one thing on her bucket list she really needs to do is become a photographer.

Mayan December is Mantra’s look into believing and not believing.

Mayan December

I want to take your picture.
Years from now, or maybe tonight,
I will care to remember
What you looked like today.
It is your Mayan December.
Our world ends today.
Since I do not believe,
Tomorrow, I’ll still be here.
You will not.

I want to take your picture.
The look on your face is priceless.
This, I will want to remember.
You’ve plotted and planned
Down to the last detail,
But there’s one thing you forgot.
You set nothing in motion.
It’s time for you to leave.
Tomorrow, I’ll still be here.
You will not.

I want to take my picture.
Years from now, or maybe tonight
I will laugh and remember
How old I became waiting
For you to even notice
Our world had ended.
Since I quit believing
In tomorrow with you here.
You are not.

What is on your bucket list? What would be the memory you would want to be certain to remember all the way to the end? If you could spend the end of time with one person (alive or dead), with whom would you spend it? Do you realize the Mayan December has mathematically passed?

  1. I love this one from Mantra! Planning for the end is a self-fulfilling prophesy, it seems. Setting things in motion for the future is part of the life force, and without it, all dies. The title is beautiful, and so fitting for those who mark their days by fear.

    • Isn’t it always though? Glad you liked this one. I thought it was sufficiently playful 😉

  2. The only thing on my bucket list would be to live the life I want without interferrence. I’d spend the end of time with granddaddy on the other side watching over my children and remembering a more innocent time when there was no talk of the world ending. I do find it strange that people feel the need to stock up for the end of the world as if they would actually be here to use what they hoard if it really did end.

    • Bwahaha! I know, right? You cannot take it with you. That is because they need to cover all their bases just in case they flub it.

  5. I like the title too and do believe I understand the poem.

Ah, worrywarts all. Each day we wake up is a gift and a pleasure. Why waste energy for what could have been or what might be.
I believe in hard work, peace and love. Other than that, I don’t care. If disaster should arrive some day, I would hope to be with my family.

    • We have similar ethics, Tess. I absolutely could not pass on the title. When I wrote the line, I knew that was going to be the title.

  6. I did a bucket list – it was long and i could never complete it.. I don’t think the dragon will cooperate nor do I know where the sky with 5 moons is yet. When I was pg with Lauren, about 5 mos, my then husband told me the world was supposed to end at the end of Oct, it was the beginning of Oct. I freaked an stressed and when it didnt end I told him to keep his predictions to himself and that it wasn;t funny.. since then I just ignore them mostly. But lately there has been a ripple in the fabric of life (and Google) that makes me wonder hmmmm;-) Mantra wastes no words does she?

    • I bet if you asked nicely, John’s dragon would take you for a ride. Dragons know where all the moons are. I prefer to bob in the ripples. I am wasting no energy riding the waves others are creating in their complete waste of energy worrying. It will or it will not. My score is even. It is all I truly ever wanted. <3 And no, she does not. You should see what I unearthed today. <3 xxx

  7. I’m waiting until Saturday to pay our credit card bills.

I like the poem Red. Good stuff.

The only bucket I have is the one I put on the floor near the bed. I haven’t put anything in that bucket because I’ve been lucky with the nausea, etc. Eww

    • Woohoo! If we all did that, the companies would be certain the world was coming to an end. No pay for say a week. I am so excited about your empty bucket! what a fabulous comment!

The only thing I’d like to do is everything.

  9. Hmmm… Done most of what I wanted to do apart from have a family, but I guess it’s too late for me! 🙂

All I want to do is take a flight in the dreamchaser to fly to the ISS and watch doomsday come and pass, but that’ll never happen.

I’m not afraid of dying having tried so hard to end my own life sixteen years ago, but I would regret the end of so many young futures.

We borrow this world from our children and we should return it to them in a better condition than we found it…

    Merry Christmas!

    Love and hugs!

    • Oh, that is a great thing to have on the list. Completely excellent idea. I think we should all do it. Not together, of course. I am working on leaving my little corner at least as good as I got it…just with more flowers. {HUGZ}

  10. My bucket list is endless and open ended (as it should be) so I would only have regrets that I didn’t finish. We already live with who we want to be with, so that can’t change. The memory I would take to the end would be a tough one. Far to many good ones. The obvious would be our wedding, or the births of our kids. Very tough.
