Saturday Evening Post

Today has been a roller coaster of epic proportions. I will not make you woozy with images like the ones in Fasten Your Seat Belts. Honestly, though, perhaps roller coaster is the wrong image entirely. There truly have not been many lows, but I am hard pressed to conjure an image of merely up…

100 Email Followers

Numbers

I am still astounded how many of you kept coming by for the installments to the story and the assorted and sundry posts in between them. You really are the reason I write… so… much. But back to today… M3 got its 100th email follower! This is a complete WOW! moment. M3 has not even been around for 100 days.

Exchange rate, anyone?

Now, to be fair, there have to be at least that many people who are not willing to give WordPress their email addresses. Otherwise, there would be no explanation for the 20,000 hits M3 broke yesterday. I went to check the blog goals for this year and am content M3 will surpass the 150,000-hit non-resolution for 2012. Anyone want to have a Christmas-in-July changing of met goals?

Zero

Zip. Zilch. Nada. Rien.

So, maybe there was one down to discuss… hatemail. For the first time in I cannot remember how long, I got zero hatemails. Now, I could delude myself into believing I did not say something offensive, but the thought is inconceivable even if I can type it. Some of my comments on other blogs are certainly offensive. Tehe. Good thing the hatemailers do not follow me to everyone else’s blogs. I will just chalk up this down as an up.

She is tired.

A Full Tank

After nearly 2,000 miles, I am glad to not remember how many hours and three fuel stops later, I am happy to report my tank is full. No, not the gas tank in the truck. My idea tank. There are the obvious ideas of destinations, travel adventures and vehicle care…but those just smack of the common sense things I fill between the posts I find fascinating. Sometimes, I choose these subjects to decompress my brain from the very human topics we discuss.

The less obvious ideas are the ones of human history and interaction I encounter on the road. The veiled intolerance, and the reasons for it. The quiet magnitude of history. The profound impressions our memories make on our perspective. The incessant song of Mantra. The intimacy between those we take with us and how it differs from the time we spend in our natural habitat. Yes, my wellspring is everywhere.

And it is even here. Do not think I have to go away to find inspiration. While I tend to turn over the rocks no matter where I may be, I was completely blown away by some of the ideas you provided in the comments while I was flipping rocks over in four states. I absolutely love the way your mind works.

I have missed you.

I had an absolutely wonderful vacation with and without my children. It was relaxing, entertaining and rejuvenating. Being the loquacious, social butterfly I am, I have missed the chatter we have about the myriad topics on M3. So, I have gobs of questions for you.

Below is my own twisted version of 20 Questions. If it is a yes/no question, just answer yes or no. Except for #12… I want the why. Pick as many as you like, or none. Even if you just want to stick out your tongue, click something to let me know you were here. (And preferably not the one-star button.)

  1. What should the name of the story be?
  2. Do I need to make a place where all the links to it are together and in order?
  3. Where do you find inspiration?
  4. What do you collect?
  5. Have you taken a moment to vote on the poll?
  6. Did I miss an obvious choice?
  7. What historical event changed you most (but not how/why…yet)?
  8. Have you ever met someone on vacation who influenced you long after it was over?
  9. Is there entirely too much poetry on M3 now?
  10. Are you ready for more series and less fluff?
  11. What have you learned this week (anywhere, not just M3)?
  12. What (drink, amusement park ride, gadget) would you first associate with M3?
  13. Is your blog listed in the Green Room?
  14. What is your favorite blog from the Green Room?
  15. When was the last time you sat and emptied your mind?
  16. What was the next thing you thought?
  17. If M3 was a television pilot, would broadcast or cable or no one pick it up?
  18. What would be a good theme song for M3?
  19. Why is your dream vacation located there?
  20. What did you learn about yourself on your last holiday?

And before I hear any flim-flam about the last question and the vacation questions, consider a day off a holiday. Want to have some fun? Forward this post to someone you would like to see their answers!

Yes, I had fun with the questions. I cannot wait to see the answers.

Another week in the kitty,
Red.

  1. Red. I didn’t take the poll because I don’t like any of the choices. I wonder why you would change a successful title at all. Instead of changing the main title, why not change the subtitle?

    • Part of it is the unsuccessful part of the money. None of my readers is particularly interested in money advice, at least not from me. The returns on the money posts are awful. M3 is going to be the domain, but I am looking to change the header…and the title. I have to get away from the 60-character truncator….

But open to suggestions of subtitle change….

  2. Red you have such a fine mind with what seems to be a never-ending supply of interestingly thought out topics, all of them with very detailed and informative layouts that I often wonder where you find these multifaceted and most uniquely offered postings from, obviously food for thought works very well for you….

Indeed your Space covers every angle of interest and even has the excellence of some very delightful poetry added, of which you should certainly consider keeping as you have a gift for writing absolutely anything that pops into your mind, and that in my way of thinking is pure genius.

I used to add a lot of postings but these days I just haven’t got the time, I write through the day but not for my blog, those are just for a bit of fun really, but yours are of a very high calibre and your thoughts of 150,000 hits by the end of 2012 is an amazing forecast, but one that I can believe with the amount of effort that you are putting into your writing.

Okay I have not added anything much here in this comment about your top twenty, well I will of course be back to add something else to this one, but for now I am in need of some coffee so that will be my next port of call…

Have a magnificent rest of Saturday Red and thank you for always offering such enjoyable postings 🙂

    • After a lovely Merlot, I think I, too, am ready for the switch back to coffee before I settle in to read. I suppose everyone must be out this evening, or occupied elsewhere. Likely, this post will pick up in the morning when I am not here.

Most all of my topics come from conversations IRL, hobbies of mine, observations of others and the simplistic way I prefer my life to transpire, which is not to say it is lacking in drama. I have always been scribbling something here and there, but gave up spreading myself thin. I much prefer to have my scribblings in one place. M3 is the place.

Thank you for your kindness. I know no other way. My perspective is always just a hair (nay, sometimes a bubble) off of level, which is likely its appeal.

I hope your Sunday is filled with delight, my friend,
      Red.

  3. Red, Write and Blew?
    Momma’s Many Meanderings?
    Momma’s Misanthropic Musings?
    Momma’s Meditation Meetings?
    Momma’s Meditating Morass?
or, to get a lot of clicks…
    Money Money Money?

Great post – too bad about the old familiar name, though. had a great ring to it. Sorry my quasi-comedic attempt won’t help in the renaming relaunch. good luck with that!

    • Aye, but it is so very amusing! Maybe, John’s suggestion will stick of just rewriting the subtitle. We shall see. No shot you’d answer a question or six? Red.

  4. Red. Speaking of M3, M3 is one of the ways the Fed tracks money, M3 is a hot BMW, M3 is… fill in the blanks. M3 might be a nice shorthand but it’s already taken. I think the reference to money is ironic. The traction you’ve gotten from Momma’s Money Matters isn’t something you want to toss out.

  7. Red, welcome back home and great post. Congrats on the goals achieved. I think John is right. Tossing Momma’sMoneyMatters may not be a great idea because of the phenomenal success you’ve had with it so far, but with your energy and creativity, it really wouldn’t be long before achieving the same traction with a new name entirely.
You could try Momma’sMagicMatters to keep the M3 and “Momma’s”.
If you decide to go all the way and shelve the M3, think radical, radical, and radical, not necessarily in that order, should I dare to suggest, ie’ MGB,…..which is kind of racy, ,,,,,..ie. Momma’sGotBrains, MommaGetsBetter, even Momma’sGotBalls, or some other catchy ‘gotcha…… “:)) –since you always offer great posts!

    • And the initials to another car!! I rather like M3. And Momma’s is not something to which I am very attached. In fact, there have been so few people find me based on the title, I cannot attribute the success to picking a great blog name. I am quite a meta wizard, which is what brings people here. Well, and the bots of course 😉

  8. No hate mail? Jeez Red this must account for a lack of laughter this week -grin-.
I’m thinking keep the header and change the subtitle as well. You’re always alive with new notions and ideas. that’s why you have so many devoted readers.
Oh, and I went with Maniacal and Mental Moments. wouldn’t have you any other way 😉
Didn’t write down the answers to questions above… would have taken up another entire paragraph.
It DID make me think though, and brought up a lot of wonderful memories as well as some crucial decisions in the past.

Red, this is the best kind of post. Get that reader Thinking!
I did. Many thanks as always for sharing your thoughts.

    • You would think my brain would eventually be empty with as many as I dump into the blogosphere. Perhaps, we can scrap the poll and I can put up header ideas in a post. I may be able to sell more of the readers with a visual than with the cerebral idea of text. (Wow, what a horrid thing to say.)

Rest assured, the mania will continue. Glad to see you thinking today!

  9. I’m trying it!! Note that answers below are from someone who is just beginning to get to know your blog.

    1. What should the name of the story be? What story?

    2. Do I need to make a place where all the links to it are together and in order? Yes! I have some trouble finding my way around your blog. You mention “the story” at the beginning of this post, for example. Great opportunity for a link!

    3. Where do you find inspiration? Blogs, books, kids and travel.

    4. What do you collect? Online friends.

    5. Have you taken a moment to vote on the poll? Yes.

    6. Did I miss an obvious choice? No comprendo.

    7. What historical event changed you most (but not how/why…yet)? The Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989.

    8. Have you ever met someone on vacation who influenced you long after it was over? Yes.

    9. Is there entirely too much poetry on M3 now? Haven’t really investigated the poetry. Sorry. I am not qualified to answer this one.

    10. Are you ready for more series and less fluff? Series posts are super interesting. I return to blogs that have info I can learn from. Fluff does not keep me harnessed long.

    12. What (drink, amusement park ride, gadget) would you first associate with M3? Money.

    14. What is your favorite blog from the Green Room? I must investigate the Green Room!

    15. When was the last time you sat and emptied your mind? I try to meditate regularly.

    16. What was the next thing you thought? Oh phooey, I’m thinking instead of meditating.

    17. If M3 was a television pilot, would broadcast or cable or no one pick it up? Cable, but maybe ready for prime time with some priming. :^)

    18. What would be a good theme song for M3? Sing a song of sixpence? Kidding….

    19. Why is your dream vacation located there? Because it’s a place I’ve been before, in another time. I want to return with my kids.

    20. What did you learn about yourself on your last holiday? I can completely forget about my blog, Klout score and social media for days on end and live in blissful harmony without the internet. Stunning.
