Erupted

MantraThe more you do, the more you are expected to do.”

The way of the world is of those granted much, much is expected. Much is not always money. Much is often time, talent, drive, skills, propensity, charity, resolve, kindness, compassion, courage, foresight, problem-solving, strength, …and more or some combination of them.

There comes a time when the demands on your resources are taxed to the nth degree, a place where you refuse to be pushed and a point from which there is no return. They come in that order. When they arrive, who is at fault?

When you reach out to assign blame, think about how these things happened. Think about why you gave to this point. Think about the rewards you have already reaped. Think about the discipline involved in speaking against the traditional expectations without denigrating their inherently humane properties.

When you do, you may be surprised by what you find.

Erupted

The closer you get to the center, the higher the pressure becomes.
Nearing the bull’s eye shows increased proficiency which brings
An expectation of continual betterment.
Forced ambition has no heart, no desire to succumb
To the anticipation created by those who would ride
The coattails of success without their own improvement.

Yet still, it does give in to the incapable and unwilling.
Ones who  reflect the streaming wins and triumphs
Constructed of blood, sweat and tears they’ll never shed.
Resentment is born of complicated, slow, painful laboring,
Lengthened by lack of assistance and anesthetic,
And nursed on the slavery of ego, acceptance and greed.

A sweeping crescendo begins, crawling atop the discarded
Aspirations, desires and rest, joining forces with anger
To propel toward the apex of volcanic temper.
When the pinnacle is reached, the cap is ferociously ejected,
And magma, steaming and searing, pours forth
Coating all, pusher, friends, family, innocent bystander.

Amid the torrent of ashes you stand wishing death
On the one you see as the cataclysmic cause
Of your rage and fatigue and despair.
As the ash settles, smoky snowflakes choking breath,
You realize the scalded and maimed were without blame
And no there’s no relationship left to repair.

You chose to throw
It all away when you
Refused to say, “No.”

Have you ever given in to the point you have been exhausted? Have you ever blown your top? Who was really to blame? Were you able to repair the relationships or did you need to replace them?

  1. Red, your mind is a veritable maze. Great piece! You are the consummate observer of humanity, it’s foibles and self-constructed, uncontrollable destruction of the innocent. Hot stuff.

    btw, the line:
” it does give into the incapable and unwilling” -did you intend “give in to ….” ?

      • Haha…perfect answer! No wonder you love volcanoes, they are incredibly powerful, unpredictable and dangerous whilst being beautiful, and most redheads are volcanoes. “:)

The toughest part of this one was choosing the image. I may have to do a pictorial one of these days of some of the lovely volcano images I have collected over the years.

You may be surprised by my volcanic nature. Mayhap, the topic of a Saturday Evening Post 😉

  3. I have never been allowed to blow my top – always I have tried to be the peacemaker and found myself in the position of giving an inch only to be almost overwhelmed when they tried to take the country mile!

That is my current position with my neighbours – and it stinks – but I will remain firm! 🙂

    Love and hugs!

When we talk about temper, you may pick up a few tips. They beat the massive explosion.
