The ball spiraled through the air. He saw the scoreboard behind it: two seconds. Snatch, tuck, turn. He’d done the drill hundreds of times.
In a few steps, his stride lengthened as he raced toward the goal line. The horn blew ending the game, and the goal post moved into his tunnel vision while the Earth slowed on its axis.
On the one-yard line, he channeled all his energy into a diving leap. In midair, pads and helmets crashed together. He and his assailant rolled before hitting the ground.
The lightning bolt of pain shot through his neck into his shoulder before he realized he’d hit the ground. He had ended his career with a game-saving goal.
This one goes out to all the NFL fans in the M3 Readers. 117 of the available 125 words in this flash. Tonight’s word is lightning.
Everyone interested in playing along with FTP need only pick one of the featured words, write a flash (staying under or at the maximum number of words for the month), and link back to the post where the word is featured. If you would like to get ahead or catch up, the words are posted on the Flash in the Pan page where your flashes will be linked.
Flash in the Pan will be a quarterly publication compliments of Redmund Productions. All entries will be published. Deadline for this edition is 30SEP12. Entries must be linked before 2359 EDT (GMT-5). All non-WordPress users need to email their links via Ask Momma.

/ September 23, 2012Great idea. I plan to pop over and check out the words and what has been written already. Who knows…maybe I’ll even give it a go.

/ September 23, 2012I certainly hope so. With your quick wit, these should be a breeze for you. I look forward to your offerings on this one. *grins*

/ September 23, 2012Yes Red I have enjoyed your Flash in the Pan, actually I have enjoyed reading your short story too 🙂 lol
Okay enough of the wickedness, I will take a look at some more of these as I venture into the world of Flash in the Pan, you never know I might even add one sometime, well maybe? 🙂
Have fun now Red 🙂

Red
/ September 23, 2012I would welcome that, Andro. I enjoy your style and would like to see what you would do with a few of them. I believe you have seen some from the Queen of Creepy (Wendy). With your imagination, you would do very well with this. 😉
Androgoth
/ September 24, 2012Yes the Queen of Creepy, you should take a look at one of my offerings on that project, noooo not a story or even a wicked poem, no this is just a few pieces of Art that I had a go with, well I say Art. They were just graphics that I had manipulated a little, mind you Wendy’s very own choice is definitely sound, and quite creepy too 🙂
As for the Flash in the Pan they don’t really suit my way of writing but don’t get me wrong I could easily do some but you know me, always backing out of these ideas but never say never is my motto so I will leave it at that 🙂
So the idea is to incorporate a word and add it within the script, say fifteen hundred words or so, or is it less? I have no idea of the given format really…
Hey don’t be GOOD tonight Red 🙂

Red
/ September 25, 2012Now, see, I knew you had this in you. When I first began, I was certain the word limit would drive me insane. As it turns out, most of the ones I have done, I have had to add to them, rather than pare them down!
And if I am missing an art project at Wendy’s I have to get over there… 😉

/ September 25, 2012Hi Red,
I have just added another Flash in the Pan to my Space, just one hundred words this time but I can do any number of words, it is simplistic to me but I have never bothered doing such short stories before, however I have enjoyed doing these two, the last one taking about five minutes to create.
Luckily I have never had a problem writing about anything, though sometimes a nudge in the right direction does help me to participate and this time I have offered something for you, of course whatever I write it is not imperative that it is used as I have just done these just for fun 🙂
Have a very nice rest of morning
Red and be wicked, like me 🙂 lol

/ September 25, 2012I am glad you are enjoying this. It was one of those things for me. It took forever for me to agree to do it, but now that I am, I am truly enjoying it. I think this is your first project with me since A to Z, my dark friend.
Androgoth
/ September 25, 2012Yes and look how those spiralled, it was certainly a Flash in the Pan for those as I remember 🙂 😉 lol
Have a really nice evening Red 🙂

Sounds like he went out with a Bang!!!
I’m not much into sport – we only played soccer and cricket at my school and I was always the goalkeeper! 🙁
Love and hugs!

Binky

/ September 23, 2012Was watching football tonight – a favorite sport, but injury is common. I figure since it’s an optional career, athletes know the risk they are taking. The flash was GREAT! I know I keep saying it but when the treadmill stops, I plan to try one!

/ September 23, 2012I have not watched football in so long. I think I have seen two games in the last two years. Sometimes, I miss it. Others, not so much 😉 Fans here are odd. That is a story for a whole different post <3 xxx

/ September 24, 2012Not a huge footy fan, no – & I don’t even know the difference between American & Aussie Rules footy. Still, when it’s grand final time (now), the atmosphere is good, so I’ve nothing ill to say of it.
Never been injured in sport, no…

/ September 24, 2012LOL! American football is a different sport than footy, which we call soccer. 😉 Cannot say I have not been hurt. Played in the Junior Olympics in volleyball when I was young. I was the baby of the team at 13. Lots of wrists and knees 😉

/ September 25, 2012auch!! poor guy. That’s a great flash Red
No, I don’t like watching football, both American and world football. I love watching basketball more.
