Guest Poem: Gray Dawster

poet365One of the M3 Readers who stepped up when I made the last call for guest posters was Gray Dawster of Poetically Refined. Some of you will recognize him from the Flash in the Pan this quarter. Let’s open his offering.

Not always are our advances as they are first perceived. Gray offers us an encounter which holds consequences unimagined in the innocence of an embrace.

Psychological Blaze

Loving kisses upon a tainted brow

A romantic embrace with hands around

First salient from the sidewalk

Now touching his love,

Eagerly entwined once more

His affectionate caresses misunderstood

Arching and twisting

She breaks free from his grasp

Running away safe at last

She rushes across a highway

Frightened of an impending attack

Alas she is hit by a car, lifeless in his arms

She is gone and never coming back

Broken, he cries out in anguish

His wife dead but now at peace

All in a blaze from such a cruel disease

  1. WOW! That was certainly a dramatic piece, Gray! And so sad. Lovely imaging and wonderful words of emotion breezed me right through the poem… such that I went back to savor it, a bit more slowly this time…

  4. It says a lot with a few words. And we’re left wondering what disease the woman suffered from.

    • I like to leave that kind of thinking for the reader as there can be many reasons why someone would lose their state of mind, and personally unpredictable endings give rise to many conclusions, which is rather nice I think.

Thank you for reading my poem Binky and for your excellent imagination as writing and reading poetry is exceedingly pleasurable 🙂 🙂

  9. Good piece Gray and it leaves the reader to think of WHY she should suddenly be so afraid.

    Mental illness is a terrible thing… 🙁

    God Bless and well done!

    • The complexities of the human mind are often hard to fathom, one minute a person will have a clear understanding of their surroundings and the next spiral out of control as unfamiliarities overpower their thoughts, which is perplexing and incredibly sad.

Thank you for your keen observations Prenin 🙂

  10. All too many intentions are miss-interpreted unfortunately and Gray has certainly led the reader here to wonder at the state of mind of his poor wife..

Having come across Gray Dawter’s excellent writing before in his poems and Short stories, He has not disappointed his reader with another of his fine offerings.
Thank you for sharing Red.. and for taking time to visit a Dreamwalker! 🙂

    • Thank you for reading this piece of poetry Sue, I think that when one offers an in depth representation of human characteristics the revelations can be somewhat alarming and yet with every poem that one reads there is a sense of understanding and for me this is the power of writing.

When one can stimulate an authentic response a connection has been achieved, which is a lovely experience for any writer.

Thank you for liking and adding your thoughts Sue 🙂
