Crystal held her arms out like a mummy as she teetered back and forth across the kitchen.
“Oh, no, Crystal! Did you forget your sunscreen? You are fried!” Her mother rushed to the medicine cabinet for a bottle of aloe gel.
Christopher ran through the kitchen with his best friend, but paused long enough to stab his sister in the ribs with a bony index finger. Crystal shrieked in agony. His friend stood, mouth agape, as Christopher grabbed him by the collar and dragged him toward the door. He stopped and called back over his shoulder, “Nah, Mom. She’s just parboiled.”
This week’s word is parboiled. The word limit for March is 150 words. This flash tips the scales at a mere 101.

/ May 20, 2013I know how a lobster feels as I was not only parboiled but almost well-done a time or two. The hot and cold afterwards and so long before relief…and the peeled skin afterwards.
Love the brother’s stab in the ribs and smart mouth statement–only a sibling can pull it off. I feel I was there in the kitchen with them.

/ May 29, 2013I got uber-sunburned when I was 18 & living in my first apartment. It was a cloudy day & I had just washed my very long hair. I was going out that evening somewhere special, so I put my hair in rollers, put on my bathing suit & spread a blanket on the front lawn of the apartment building. It was windy so my hope was my hair would dry quickly. Unfortunately, I fell asleep reading & woke up purple I was so badly burned. I didn’t even care my dad saw my virtually naked when he arrived to bring me some medicine. I never did get to go out that night!

/ May 29, 2013I have given up on drying my hair. Especially when it is cool, it can take 36 hours to dry. PFT on that! Did your date at least come over and rub aloe on you? Ouch!
