The sun beat down on his skin. It was too hot to keep on his clothes, but without them, everywhere the light touched burned.
Turning like a sundial to only expose one side at a time to the unrelenting orb, he tried to count the waves as they licked at the side of the raft. It only made him seasick.
He closed his eyes and pictured her face handing him the cruise tickets she’d won. “If she hadn’t drowned, I would have killed her.”

Tonight’s Flash comes under the August upper limit of 100 by a mere 16. If you would like to join Flash in the Pan, this week’s word is “light”. Link back to this post with your “light” flashes to be featured on the Flash in the Pan page due out at the end of this month.
Have you ever been given something which turned out to be something you should have turned down? Is anything really ever free? What is the best free thing you have ever gotten? Have you ever given a disastrous free thing to someone else?

/ August 13, 2012Hmmm…I haven’t received, nor given anything free that has come back to bite me! (knock on wood) ๐
So unexciting! But, I do agree with other comments that “free” is not really free. There usually is some kind of a catch (small print)!
Great flash story, Red! Sending hugs! โฅ

/ August 13, 2012You know I am not keen on Flash fiction but I do like this one Red, especially at the very end, his hands around her neck and… Well it’s a funny conclusion for sure ๐ ๐ lol
Have a wicked
rest of evening Red ๐
For me it is time for my
Cup of Tea and Van Helsing ๐

/ August 13, 2012You are such a trooper to still partake in this feature. I know you are not much a reader of flash. I think you just like I tend to show my darker tendencies in flash I leave off the other posts ๐ Enjoy your cuppa, my friend!

/ August 14, 2012Might as well face it, nothing is free anymore. Even your flash in the pan character had to pay. Ha ha.
