Maggie was getting tired. It was the eighth town, twelfth job, sixteenth rental. She had given up on trying to make friends 60 days into her two-year upheaval. She had coping mechanisms, though.
She bedded a tattoo artist, content to ply his trade on her willing skin. When he was working, she was with her therapist, satisfying her daddy complex. When all else failed, she had a barrista who was tired of her boyfriend. Ultimately, he was the straw which broke the camel’s back.
He screeched at her girlfriend, “How can you be with this lunatic? She is sleeping with half the town!”
“If she isn’t sleeping with you, neither am I.”
“Wait, you would do us both?”
She grinned slyly.
“And wouldn’t want to break up?”
She shook her head, and he turned to Maggie. Behind her grin, she was every bit what he called her. Fun tonight. Move tomorrow.
On the money this time, this flash is precisely 150 words, the upper limit for December. Featuring the word lunatic, it is perfectly aligned with the title of the new book, Disturbed.
Just under three weeks to deadline of 31DEC13 at 2359 EST (GMT -5). Are you going to get disturbed with us? Have you taken a few moments to check out some of the other disturbed flashers?
Happy Flashing!
What is Maggie going to really do? Is she running for more than just her reputation? How much will the boyfriend pay?
