Saturday Evening Post

What a roller coaster week this has been. Snuggle in with a cuppa. The rain has slacked off, and the breeze is a bit stiff tonight. Clyde has a question, or three. Let’s talk.

No Daddy

Everyone who was around for Friday Follies last night got a good dose of the top end of the stupidometer. The SIB was equally as heavy with other such nonsense all night last night and into the morning this morning. No, I am not going to share. Suffice it to say, they are still holding the placard which states I, Red Dwyer, broke their FTP client. It is a classic example of Corporate Shoot the Messenger.

Success!

Despite the corporate nonfeasance shown by my host, the Redmund Productions forum is up and running. Yes, there are a few cosmetic errors which I still need to track down. So, shoot me. Some users will already notice some styling differences as the day has worn on. Eventually, the color scheme will change to better reflect RP, but for now, I am just glad it works.

Stop by and say hello. Answer a question. Distract me from plucking my eyeballs out creating fine print and legalese. No worries. Most of it is already contained here, and the rest of it is standard fare.

Oh, one thing. You actually do have to register to view the forum. Click on the Create an Account button at the bottom. The first stop is the Welcome post.

Apology & Thanks

There are many of you who have been faithful to M3 since you first scrolled past a post. I want to tell you sometime in the near future we will return to the fare which has populated these pages in months gone by. It will take me a while to get enough of my desk cleared to do as such. Until then, thank you for all the support you give in sharing posts with your friends, colleagues and social media.

Right Turn, Clyde!

I really truly do not care if you like what I have to say.”Β ~ Red Dwyer

This statement has been the underlying theme for the M3 Friday Follies, every email I have ever sent to a customer disservice representative and anyone who ventured a contrary, derogatory or condescending opinion of any project, product or production on which I have worked.

Except one.

My sister challenged me this week to stop giving a [expletive] what other people thought. You know I laughed, right? You know what else? She is right.

I have been dispensing the same advice she gave me for years. Why? It is really good advice. What is it about which I am being so protective? Mantra’s new book.

If you were here for some of the original poems shared on The M3 Blog, you were party to my reticence to such sharing. Even some of the poems in Mantra for a Muse were deemed inappropriate for M3.

Mantra’s Midnight is a book filled to brimming with poems which I am convinced are not appropriate for the M3 menu. As those who have readΒ MFM can attest, the poems I withheld were not based on quality issues. The majority of the exclusive ones were far deeper than the ones which made their way here. Yes, it is possible.

A similar issue has arisen with M2. The darkness, which we have tangentially embraced on M3, is pervasive, as the title suggests. My question, which prompted Val’s response, was, “Do you think this is too dark?” Apparently, it was a question akin to asking if something was “too Dirty Harry“.Β It seems to be a candidate for the third-party-facepalm.

Enter Ape

Right turn, Clyde.

At the point I commit emotion, angst, anguish or memory to paper (or screen) necessarily I give up the right to privacy thereto. Knowing full well I retain the privacy attached to hoard said paper, I find myself loathe to share portions of it knowing it will arouse such feelings in others. This attitude can be veiled with humane compassion; yet, it is merely a façade.

You see, it is overtly humane to admit vulnerability and allow others to see it. In fact, it is a tacit endorsement for others to be vulnerable without shame. Living as we are without the fear of other’s reproach of our weaknesses, vulnerabilities and self-declared faults is the sincerest form of being true to oneself.

Until next time,

Red Signature

~~~~~~~~~~
Is it merely self-preservation which drives us to hide our vulnerabilities? When we are willing to admit them to ourselves, why are we unwilling to broadcast them in an attempt to connect to others with them? Why do we not reach out to those who are vulnerable instead of retreating?
  1. Purely self preservation.
    I would be working on two books, one of which is uggh. The other, well I was told my take on the matter is rude. I do believe I’ll be leaving that part as is.
    OK off to read more sales ads for homes that include just jewels as “will not pass any appraisal,” “buy all three and save” and pictures of broken windows, over turned furniture, boarded doors and rotting walls.
    OK I distract easily.
    • I think rude is often in the eye of the guilty beholder. Then again, I produce Friday Follies. I may not be the best one to judge such things πŸ˜‰
  2. I think we all spend extra effort covering our vulnerabilities. I often get told, “You don’t have to tell me that,” which I translate into, “What you say makes me uncomfortable, don’t tell me again.” I decided a while ago it’s too much work for me to hide as much as I was hiding. And for who’s comfort? It didn’t make me any more comfortable living a facade. What you talk about and expose us to about yourself here, Red, is what makes us come back again. Your humanity, your willingness to share your feelings and thoughts, and the fact is, we all have our darkness; Mantra’s Midnight. I can only speak for myself, but I welcome your darkness and vulnerabilities. They don’t make you less, they make you more.
    • Oh, wow. Your universal translator does not speak “Red”. When I say, “You do not have to tell me that,” it invariably means “I already know that.” On the other hand, my response for what you translated to is: “I really prefer not to discuss this.” I do not volunteer a reason unless asked. (See post on questions.)
      I am a firm believer in the strength of vulnerability. Likewise, I am acutely aware of the line between vulnerability and weakness. (Another entire series.) Truly, if we were emotionally impervious, we would cease being human. <3 xxx
      • Thanks. I have to reevaluate my universal translator, because it’s putting rejection in my head instead of the connections I wish to make. That’s predictable for me. I’ll go to the post on questions, and take a gander.
  4. Sorry, Red, but what is an FTP client? Every time I see F & P in the same acronym I think ‘Freshly Pressed’, so obviously I’m thinking ‘fresh-toe-pressed’….
    Sounds like some stuff has been going on, Red. I’m sorry I haven’t been present enough to realise. You sound on top of it, though – & your sister sounds better than mine!! SUPPORTIVE!!! WHAT THE?????
    I love ‘it is a tacit permission to be vulnerable too – excellent, Red.
    Good luck with what’s happening, & see you ALWAYS. You’re a fire storm in this blogosphere, as far as I see…. πŸ™‚
    • FTP is “file transfer protocol”. An FTP client is what one uses to upload the files which power a website to a server. It does no good for the site to be built on my computer and inaccessible to the public. It must be loaded to my host so others can access it.
      And yes, my sister is wonderful. I have many wonderful sisters.
      Not so sure about firestorm…perhaps arsonist? *grins* <3
    • Getting this third of the site up was challenging. I am hoping the last two thirds are not such a disaster. Since I posted this, I have another large section of the main site mobile. I need only to tweak some settings and settle some template wrinkles. After that, it should be ready to move. That leaves only one more large component before I can open the entire affair. I am hoping to make my deadline. πŸ™‚
    I think there is a difference between giving a f*** what others think and calling them on their BS
    • I agree 100%. In this case, I was giving and F and not calling them on their BS. In fact, even if the opinion is ventured, it is merely that. πŸ˜‰
  7. No vulnerability may keep one safe, but what fun is that? We’re all the same underneath our masks, and its refreshing when peopl are real and let others see the real person. Congratulations on the Redmand productions. I know you will be a success.
  8. Hmmm…
    Every time I have shown the slightest vulnerability somebody has tried to make money out of it.
    I guess I find it hard to trust anyone these days…
    Love and hugs!
  9. I think it is largely self-preservation that we hide our vulnerabilities. When we get to know someone, we’re much more likely to divulge such things.
    • That sends me into a tail spin. By putting up an invulnerable facade, we often cannot get to know anyone well enough to share such things. It is a catch-22. You cannot have an “I’ll show you mine, if you show me yours” scenario because no one is ever willing to go first. *shakes head* Humanity should be shared at first blush, at least to my way of thinking.
