No matter how invincible we may want to believe we are, each and every one of us needs help.
Some of us need professional help: attorney, psychiatrist, refrigerator repairman.
Some of us need technical help. Some of us need information.
All of us need emotional help. No irony is lost knowing all of the professionals give us some measure of emotional help when they render the services for which we dearly pay. How?
Humility comes from asking for help. The act brings us to acknowledge we need those things which we cannot procure on our own. It is our surrender to the pack. Whatever greatness we offer in any field is balanced by a need which only others can fill. Rather than be mired in our need, we come to the place where we recognize the magnanimity of our fellows in their deliverance. It is a validation of our acceptance into society.
The asking is not the only portion of the equation. When assistance is rendered, gratitude is the emotional capital we use to pay for the gift of help.
Those who help us are not machines which operate on the fuel (money) we put into them. They take from our use of their services the satisfaction of being productive members of the society. When we say thank you we are acknowledging their societal contribution rather than merely the mechanical contribution of their occupation.
Do you put a piece of yourself (emotional capital) into your job? Do you recognize others for their contributions?

/ July 14, 2013I am grateful for all the help I get. I like to help all those I can. Sometimes I put too much of myself into what I do and get lost in it and have trouble finding my way out.
I am sure you know that feeling.

/ July 20, 2013I do put myself into my job, some days more than others. I strive to be a great employee, which pours into my work in many ways.
I’m not sure if this is good or bad, but I’m not afraid to ask for help if I need it and I definitely love to help others and won’t hesitate to say “thank you.” I probably say it too much! 🙂
I’m very grateful and humbled and I’m always happy to make someone else’s day a little easier by helping them. It’s a feeling that warms the heart!
Thanks for this awesome advice and your wonderful quote, Red! Hope you are well and sending many hugs!
