Flash in the Pan

Roberta harrumphed when she saw it. For a moment, she just stood there contemplating closing the oven door…leaving it to smolder until it was nothing more than a pan full of ashes.

She looked up at the clock. There were only four hours left before her partner would walk through the door. She did the mental math on how long it had taken her to destroy this meal.

The telephone number chanted through her mind. With a resigned sigh, she dialed the number, thinking, One day, someone is going to figure it out.

“Yes. I need to place an order. To go.”

Welcome to “Flash in the Pan”

This week’s word is ashes. Tonight’s flash comes in at 102 against the September limit of 125 words.

Everyone interested in playing along with FTP need only pick one of the featured words, write a flash (staying under or at the maximum number of words for the month), and link back to the post where the word is featured. If you would like to get ahead or catch up, the words are posted on the Flash in the Pan page where your flashes will be linked.

Flash in the Pan will be a quarterly publication compliments of Redmund Productions. All entries will be published. Deadline for this edition is 30SEP12. Entries must be linked before 2359 EDT (GMT-5). All non-WordPress users need to email their links via Ask Momma.

Are you someone who could burn water? Have you ever ordered food and passed it off as your own? Have you ever considered it? What is your favorite dish to cook?

  1. I go for the really elaborate stuff, like pasta or pancakes. I used to bake pretty good chocolate rum cake with butter cream icing.

  2. Never passed something off as my own.

When I cook a nice elaborate meal, which takes “forever” because it’s all fresh, I do advise people if they like it I made it, if they don’t it’s take out.

When they do like it, I politely advise them not to tell anyone. LOL 🙂 What? And have all these great expectations? Oh NO! 🙂

Favorite to cook is my sketti sauce. I make KILLER sketti sauce 🙂 KILLER… 🙂 Like so awesome you die for more!

    • Oh, me, too. Everyone knows I cook. Fortunately, I invite people over whenn it is not time to eat. 😉 I make the world’s best fajitas and egg rolls. Top notch. Unless you count lasagna and beef Wellington. Well, and then there is breakfast. OK, I am hungry. I think Cat may be onto something…time for some more recipes!

  3. Red, I can cook or bake almost anything decently if necessary. I really like cooking. One of my favorites is sauteed beef with mushrooms, zucchini, onions and garlic served over rice…. “:)

  4. I’m a pretty good cook for a guy! 🙂

When I used to babysit long weekends (Their momma used to vanish for weeks sometimes!) I used to teach the kids to cook and bake.

It made something of a mess (Imagine a flood after a fire at a flour mill!) but the kids loved it!!! 🙂

These days I am pretty good with a microwave because my cooking added too much to my waistline and I had to downsize rather radically! 🙂

    Love and hugs!

  8. I believe each cook should have a few secrets.

I make killer soups and stew in cold weather and in warm weather, I’m the salad queen.

True or false? See, I have some secrets too. Ha ha.
