Flash in the Pan

One hundred strokes with the hairbrush. Her best perfume. Brand new dress.

She looked at the clock in the hall. After sitting on the couch for three minutes, she looked at her watch.

There were wrinkles in her skirt. She consulted her wrist four times while the iron heated. She smoothed the skirt without taking off the dress.

She straightened all the chachkies on the shelf and eyed the clock again. She peeked out the curtains, every time she paced past the window.

Two hours later, the telephone rang. By the second ring, she knew he wasn’t going to come.

  1. Great story, Red, and obviously, she was waiting for someone special, so lets say, a special loser, just to add to the “loser” comments! ๐Ÿ™‚ It is too bad she went to all that trouble and I wonder how many of us have gone through this; probably too many. Although, I don’t think any of us would have waited as long as she! I felt so bad for her, though, when the second ring rang! xx

    • I got it across then. She really was waiting for a loser. I felt sad for her to wait for someone who was never coming. xxx

  2. It is bad enough being late to take her out, but then not to turn up at all is just ridiculously cheap. Mind you one mans loss is another mans gain, and she is better off without him… Good riddance ๐Ÿ™‚

    Another wonderful flash Red ๐Ÿ™‚

    • I agree. Those who miss the mark merely pass it to someone more appreciative. I hope she finds him. ๐Ÿ™‚
