“If that phone rings one more time, I am going to rip it out of the wall.”
Carrie cowered on the couch. She’d heard this speech before. She pushed herself up and toward the kitchen.
She set dinner on the table, knowing better than join him for the meal. She crawled into bed, falling into fitful dreams. It wasn’t the ringing which woke her. The cord wrapped around her neck did.
This week’s word is “dinner”. Flash in the Pan has an upper limit for September of 125 words. Tonight’s flash weighs in at the featherweight of 71 words.
Everyone interested in playing along with FTP need only pick one of the featured words, write a flash (staying under or at the maximum number of words for the month), and link back to the post where the word is featured. If you would like to get ahead or catch up, the words are posted on the Flash in the Pan page where your flashes will be linked.
Flash in the Pan will be a quarterly publication compliments of Redmund Productions. All entries will be published. Deadline for this edition is 30SEP12. Entries must be linked before 2359 EDT (GMT-5). All non-WordPress users need to email their links via Ask Momma.

How long has it been since you had a telephone corded to the wall? Do you still have a land line? Who is “he”?

/ September 14, 2012Gives me goosebumps. She’s damned no matter what. Fabulous, Red. And, no, I haven’t seen a corded phone for…can’t remember.
Hope I’ve linked back properly.

/ September 15, 2012hi Red… after this story, well maybe I’ll not use corded any more!!
When I was looking to work from home (through a SSD employment agency), everrything had to be hard wired for security – phone, internet, the works… How hard it was to even FIND a co0rded phone, much less one that had a jack for a headset!!
That stuff didn’t work out, though – all promises, no action!!
great FTP, Red!!
🙂

/ September 16, 2012I have heard that from a number of SSD Ticket to Work people. One of the things which floors me about the prerequisites is: The cost of the services you must provide to work mitigate the salary to the point it is often lower than minimum wage. I think that is my biggest problem with the entire affair.
Glad you liked this one. I hope I am getting better at the surprise ending. When they are short, it can be difficult! 🙂
