We all have completely different filing methods which should, theoretically, work the same.
Dear Saved File,
I tucked you into a folder because I knew it would be a while before I needed you. I had a basic idea of when it would be. I dated you so I could remember when the idea had occurred. It would help me realize its relevance when I needed it again.
Like all things, time got away from me. The months stretched to years. The computer was traded in on the next model but not before I scavenged all my information to live on a sector of the new hard drive. Then, a new computer came. You were moved into a folder called “Ancient Drive”.
Today, as I am occupying my time with digital clean up, I came across a date which seemed totally irrelevant. Nothing whatsoever presents for why the date is memorable. Let’s click it and see what it is.
After a bit of translation, the text springs to life. You take my breath away the way a tornado clears the plain.
The words echo as I read them. I could have written them today. How can that be true? The only constant is change. Am I really just the same today as I was those long years ago?
Perhaps in that insignificant date I found a truth I was not ready to face at the time. I am the rock I seek.
Quietly,
Have you read something you wrote years ago which is still just as relevant now? Can you write a letter a day for a month?

/ February 16, 2015I cannot answer this question about relevance, although I have come across old writing that surprised me, in a good way.
No, to the second part of the question. :-(.

/ February 17, 2015I think it is just as fun as flipping through the journal years later. The surprises can be amazing. xxx

/ February 17, 2015I have run across things I wrote, like you in ancient files. Some of it causes me to sit and breath through tears, others I simply smile and shake my head.
Some, well some I am starting to share with some fear. Mostly poetry.

/ February 17, 2015Q1: Yep. I burned the poetry; some of the prose I still use…
Q2: Nope.

/ February 17, 2015I seriously considered ditching some of the ancient poetry I found. In the end, I have kept all of the old stuff to remind me how much has changed. The Hopi have it right. xxx

/ February 17, 2015It’s funny but when I open some of my ancient files I find some rather rubbish writing of mine, of course at the time it was written I must have thought it worth saving but no, some of it is not worth keeping. It’s not always like that though, sometimes an old file is opened and inside is a real treasure, so it is a treat brushing off the cobwebs and delving deeper. You never know there could even be something worth publishing in there somewhere 🙂 lol
Have a very sweet evening Red 🙂

/ February 17, 2015I think I feel the same way about the journals. (See my comment to Tess.) I keep some of the old musty things simply to gauge what my writing is like now… and no longer. You should let me look in that ancient folder… xxxx

/ February 26, 2015That Ancient Folder…
It has a nice ring to that doesn’t it my dear friend and I am seriously thinking of writing something completely new for you to have a look at. I have some good ideas on how it will all pan out and hopefully it will be good enough for a decent read. It will be dark and bloody with an added twist of the macabre to whet our appetites, now all I need to do is get my ass in gear and write it.
You know I might send you a very old manuscript (not for publication you understand, it is far too ridiculous for that, but it could give you a few chuckles, I know it did me after reviewing it last week, wow did I actually write that rubbish? lol), it’s an old one that has a politics angle, but slapstick in all of its form.
Okay time for me to sign off now and get some of my domestic chores into operation, I do enjoy the house cleaning tasks, hmm… 🙂 lol

/ March 15, 2015I would like to read it, although I recall telling you that once upon a dream. Mayhap, you can join the krewe and get in the forum (which will be migrating soonly) and get some encouragement, support and feedback. xxxx

/ April 5, 2015If I ever find the time I will do just that my sweet friend 🙂 You know, if I ever do send you the cobwebbed mention I will have to edit to the maximum or you will think it is a dinosaur ready to be slaughtered… lol
There are literally tons of errors in there…
